Fleshy Friday TV Review: The Walking Dead

Every week the Zombie Cookbook shows you why the world would be a better place if it had more zombies in it. This week however, we showcase another review by Lucio Ruggero, who explores some of the finer examples of study material on life after the zombie-apocalypse.

This week Lucio reviews the new hit TV series “The Walking Dead” by Frank Darabont (The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption). It aired from October 31st till December 5th 2011 on the AMC Network in the States and is slated for release on DVD this coming March. Lucio?

“The Walking Dead is the first ever zombie TV series and I must say I like it.

Based on the zombie comic books of the same title, Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard, this series is about a group of survivors trying to cope with a world overrun by zombies.

It starts off 28 Days Later style, with sheriff Rick Grimes waking up out of a coma in a deserted hospital. After he escapes the hospital and has his first encounter with the new world order, zombies, he eventually meets up with a group of survivors, that include his wife and son. During the course of the series, our group has to deal with both zombies and other survivors.

It's not a purely action based series, as is the case with most zombie movies. But because this is a TV series, and one that will extend with a second 13 episode season, a lot of detail is put into the development of characters and their relationships within the group. As a co-worker of mine commented: ‘“The Walking Dead” is like “The Bold and the Beautiful” with zombies.’ So it's not just die-hard zombie fans that have fallen in love with this show, others have taken a shine to it too.

The series was beautifully shot, the effects are done to a very high standard and the action scenes are extremely well worked out. This high production standard creates an overall atmosphere of a post apocalyptic zombiefied United States that is very compelling.

In my opinion (after watching the full first season, comprised of six episodes in total) too much emphasis is put on the relations within the group. I'd prefer to see more action. But The Walking Dead is interesting enough to make me keep watching and I'm looking forward to the next season.

Happy 2011 to all of you out there! Glad you all made it to the final year before the apocalypse!

This year, we thought we'd start off nice and easy by presenting you one of the finer gems in our undead collective, lovely diva Jenny Deathcry. We'd quote some Shakespeare to emphasize how proud we are to have her in our midst... But we don't know any, except: "there's something rotten in the state of Denmark" - but that goes without saying.

This song - The Boy -, set in jazzy surroundings, is about the things love can do to you. Beautifully sung by our undead diva, accompanied by the moody undertones of Doctor Bass on.. erm... bass, obviously. Add a pinch of Limbstitcher Gorehands, plucking the strings, and we have ourselves a tune that will stay with you the remainder of your undead life.

Fleshy Friday Movie Review: Zombie Transfusion

This week Lucio reviews Zombie Transfusion aka Automaton Transfusion (USA, 2006) and he's none to excited about it... Read on:

This movie is no highlight in cinematic history. I did have some enjoyable moments with it however.

To start with: the plot is extremely thin to the point of non-existence and the characters are completely uninteresting. The gore makes up for this quite well though.

The story: The military is secretly testing a formula that brings the dead back to life, so they can be used as cannon fodder instead of the living. The setting: a small American town, with nice people and a high school whose students we follow as the events unfold.

Infection spreads, people get bitten, infection spreads more, teenagers turn into zombies at a party as the our heroes try their best to escape, although they're not very good at it.

That's about all I can say. It was kind of depressing to see “to be continued” displayed on the screen at the end. A sequel certainly isn't anything to look forward to.

There was a scene I really liked though: a pregnant couple are having a drink at the party. A zombie walks in. He immediately pulls the fetus from the girl's womb and starts devouring it, leaving onlookers to watch the whole thing in shock.

This week Lucio reviews Colin (UK, 2009). Directed by Marc Price and starring Alastair Kirton, Daisy Atkins, Kate Alderman, Leanne Pammen, Tat Whalley, amongst others. Take it away, Lucio:

Ever wanted to see a movie from the zombie's point of view? Well here's your chance. In the end you might even feel sympathy for them, poor things.

In this movie we follow Colin, a regular Londoner, while he learns to cope with a zombie apocalypse, getting infected himself and turning into a full fledged zombie. I have to say the movie is very convincing. You're there, to say the least.

What you almost never see in the regular zombie flic (except for Survival of the Dead) is how family members deal with the apparent zombification of their loved one. This is very well depicted in Colin and makes for some memorable scenes. Especially when mom has to leave both Colin and his sister behind, because she's been infected too.

The zombies in this movie completely lack any form of intelligence, with only their instincts drives them. This is how I like to see them and is cause for some pretty hilarious scenes. The movie has plenty of gore, human death squads (who take very good care of their own, when bitten), beautiful scenery of the city of London and a very compelling soundtrack.

This movie is very special and therefore I really really recommend you all to see it.

Fleshy Friday: Zone of the Dead

What I liked: it's old fashioned Romero-style zombie action, the zombies look quite convincing, Ken Foree was in it, there's some nice scenes of gore and there are both slow- and fast moving zombies. What I disliked: shaky camera-action in scenes which did not really need it and acting that could have been somewhat better.

One of the most memorable scenes features a naked female zombie, wearing a towel on her head, like she just came out of the shower, attacking the lead actress. So I had quite an amusing Tuesday afternoon watching this.

A little while ago news reached us of a car crash involving zombies. While it isn't surprising to have zombies involved in a) car crashes , b) car wrecks, or even c) people running to get to their car only to have said people crash them.

What is surprising, is paramedics actually trying to resuscitate zombies in their car. Yet this is exactly what happened on Interstate 84 a little while ago. Personally we believe that if you're going to flood the roads with zombies, you'd best do it en masse.

We'll leave you this week with some new shots from the television adaptation of Robert Kirkmans' The Walking Dead. We're pretty stoked about that one, so enjoy.

Fleshy Friday: Intero Lucio taking on La Horde!

Shambling our undead selves around Amsterdamn restlessly as per usual, we stumbled into a brewery and encountered a lone zombie with an opinion on well... zombies!

Allow us to introduce to you: Lucio Ruggoro. He'll be posting stuff on zombie-flics from now on. Giving you the latest insights and bestest reviews you're ever going to read, and helping you to be a tad more selective in your viewing pleasures. So if you're torn about what you should see, we suggest you see us first. The first movie up on the chopping block? La Horde, where the zombies parlez frog. Read on...

There's something rotten in the city of Paris
It's not often that I watch a movie in French, without subtitles, but being the zombie-flic
afficionado that I am, I made an exception for “La Horde”.

It all starts out at a funeral, where a French team of cops bury their colleague and plan to
avenge his death, caused by aNigerian gang in Paris. So after dark they head for the Nigerian headquarters which is (of course) based in some desolate suburb, where the high-rises haven't seen any maintenance since the mid 80's.

At first the plan goes well. They sneak into the building until they're at the door of the gang lord's dwelling. However, something goes wrong leaving the Nigerians with the chance to act first and capture "Les flics". They are tortured, but in the process the gangsters kill off one of their own. Then the fun really begins...

After hearing noises from the room where they put the corpse, someone opens the door. Releasing a very gruesome zombie, who immediately attacks everyone in sight. The Nigerians try to contain the threat, but let's just say that aiming at the chest isn't the best approach for killing a zombie and people get infected.

Everyone runs off to the roof of the building, where the gangsters and cops decide to hold a truce, and fight the zombies together. From there on out non-stop action in claustrophobic hallways ensue.

The scene that I liked the most is where the female cop has to fight off a female zombie in a kitchen, and uses everything available (pots, pans, a kitchen cabinet door) to kill her adversary. When she finally accomplishes to do just that, she spits on the zombie corpse , followed by a healthy "Pute!!". That's what I also liked so much about this movie, the constant swearing in French; "Putain Merde" galore!

Finally our team finds a new member in René, a veteran of the French foreign legion, who (oh coincidence) has a heavy machine gun stored in his cupboard, which comes in very handy. And the killing goes on! But not after they all enjoyed some healthy French hard liquor.

One cop offers to be a decoy and ends up on top of a car, surrounded by hungry zombies, shooting them down like flies and then using a machete to cut off body parts to no avail, because soon he too is overrun. This movie does not end well for humanity, Paris in flames, the population all changed but what can I say?

Yes, I'll just say: See it!!!

Every week the Zombie Cookbook brings you more evidence of the impending zombie-apocalypse. This week it appears little King Tut has gone missing! No, not the boy king himself... But his mummified zombie-weener appears to have gone off on a hike, all by its self.

It may come as no surprise to you at all that several parts of poor King Tut would be semi-puddle shaped by now. Since he's been dead since.... ehrm... 1323 BC (Wikpedia knows). What will come as a surprise to you is that his mummy penis has gone missing. This raises various questions. Was it even there at all when he died? Or was that what killed him? Or did he (or it) die at all? Zombie-mummy mash-up anybody?

We, of course, know a fairly reasonable explanation for what happened. We've seen it before, see above.

Just kidding. While it could be true that this early dying of rock stars is really happening, we'd much rather have you around so you can contribute to our little show. Here's your chance.

Every week the Zombie Cookbook brings you more evidence of the impending zombie-apocalypse. We sure do enjoy being at the top of the foodchain; otherwise we'd have to resort to hunting and eating each other and that's just no way to treat your friends...

Eating humans might be seen as a depraved form of cannibalism, but the graph above provides ample evidence that we're something completely different. While we could of shamble down the path of what zombies in the movies might represent, we're an old fashioned bunch of zombies, so we'll just stick to snapping at the lot of you whenever we get the chance. We've found this list of pre-Romero films on the web, and we think it might be worthwhile to check these out for a change of flavour; old school.

Could we be looking at zombies 2.0 in the near future? Some British boffin claims he isolated the gene to re-grow body parts, claiming that: "If we know what is happening when tissues are regenerated under normal circumstances, we can begin to formulate how to replace damaged and diseased organs, tissues and cells in an organised and safe way following an injury caused by trauma or disease."Injury or disease ey? We're talking universal soldier zombies, baby! Eternal feeding frenzies can be ours!

If only we could get this guy to stop spreading the word on how to prepare for our day of uprising. Or actually... Let them read. There's more of us anyway.

Every week the Zombie Cookbook brings you more evidence of the impending zombie-apocalypse. In this week's episode we're going to be focusing on the bright side of a future over run with zombie-overlords. Especially for you.

For me, you ask? Yes, you. Since we're already partial to the zombie-perspective, all that's left for us to do is to enlighten you in the ways of the zombie and tell you why you should embrace our apocalyptic worldview. But don't take our word for it; cold hard science is on our side!

Apparently some head doctors decided it would be a good idea to use troubled (i.e. whiny) fictional teenagers - one of which is actually a hundred year old 'teenager' - to diagnose psychiatric problems in actual troubled (possibly also whiny) teenagers. Since we're really big 'fans' of Twilight we decided to take this hypothesis one step further and help psychiatry along a bit.

I mean... Why use some sparkly-ass vampire with arrested development and a self-loathing, insecure shell of a girl to explain your brain to you? Zombies have been eating brain for years, we're way more in the know than some undead teenager and his bitchy prey!

Considering the sole reason for us to enlighten you is to fatten your brains so we can eat them, we think it's only fair to give you a heads up on the way the remnants of our brain are wired.

Without further ado, please allow us to introduce to you, our very own independent expert: Dr. Steven C. Schlozman. We'll let our trustworthy doctor explain our Ataxic Neurodegenerative Satiety Deficiency Syndrome. And while you're distracted doing that, don't be alarmed by us kindly guitar slinging-zombies ganging up on you in the background...

This message will be repeated once a week, every week. Goodmoarning! After the rotting corpse of one of our finest members staggered back onto the Dutch beaches this weekend, The Zombie Cookbook is complete once again.

Things have been moving along steadily over here, but we're planning on picking up speed over the next couple of weeks. Be warned, we'll be bugging everybody and their mom to try and take a chunk out of you to better ourselves, purely for your enjoyment of course...

What enjoyment are we speaking of then? Well, first off we're hoping to get some more able bodies ready and frothing into the studio. This is as high a priority on our to-do list as ever. Second; we've gotten an offer to participate in an upcoming zombie flick (happy happy joy joy!) due to be shot over the course of this summer. We'll keep you posted as soon as we know more, or if we think you can help out!

Every week the Zombie Cookbook brings you more evidence of the impending zombie-apocalypse. This week, it became apparent that Miss Jolie’s army of zombie-adoptees aren’t the only zelebs running rampant in Hollywood. The virus is spreading like wildfire amongst A-listers and we know just what’s causing it.

First, Lady Gaga implied that she may have fallen victim to lupus. Her pale complexion and jerky ‘dance’ moves (yeah right, you try and control a zombie once it’s turned) makes us suspect otherwise…

Then, Christina Aguilera was ‘forced’ to cancel her tour due to prior engagements. Prior engagements to do what? We think her only prior engagement is that she too has fallen prey to the army of the undead! While Aguilera has been accused of imitating Gaga in her new video “Not Myself Tonight”, this so called ‘copying’ of Gaga’s moves and music seem more like a clear cut case of contamination to us.

Finally, John Mayer announced the cancellation of the remainder of his tour as well. His management claim this is due to illness, but we all know it’s impossible to be such a douche without being a zombie.

What’s causing this outbreak amongst these A-lister you wonder? We think we may have found the answer… Lindsey Lohan was caught doing cocaine at a party when she was supposed to be in court. Over the weekend it was revealed that Angelina Jolie is planning to adopt a fourth child. While the rest of the world may be fooled into thinking Miss Jolie simply cares, here at the Zombie Cookbook headquarters we have reason to believe St. Angie is on an adoption frenzy to create a zombie kiddy army in order to hunt down and kill arch nemesis (and hubby's Brad Pitt's previous misses) Jennifer Anniston.

St. Angie is even believed to have zombified a sattelite to track down Miss Anniston's whereabouts.

We believe Miss Pitt is rearing her army of zombie adoptees on Japanese Zombeef Jerky. A zombie-meat product which recently made headlines when the Duchess of York, better known as Fergie, was caught trying to sell Prince Andrew to the zombeef jerky factory for parts, claiming he had turned. Buckingham Palace in the meantime denies the existence of any zombie-royalties. The Zombie Cookbook is inclined to agree, obviously they're just inbred.

Every week the Zombie Cookbook brings you further evidence of the impending zombie-apocalypse. A new study has shown zombies produce a chemical scent that terrifies people.

Scientists in the US discovered that specific proteins found in zombie-saliva trigger fear in humans. These proteins, referred to as Mups, act on cells in a special sensory organ found in humans known as the vomeronasal organ. The team of scientists describe how the proteins triggered a fearful reaction in research subjects.

This shows that humans, and possibly other mammals, have evolved receptors that are able to pick up chemical signals from their undead brethren. The vomeronasal organ contains neurons that detect these chemical signals. The organ is connected to areas of the brain that are involved in memory, emotion and hormonal release.

In most mammals it is already widely known to detect pheromones; chemical messengers that carry information between individuals of the same species. These pheromones can have a direct effect on animals' behaviour.

In this study however, researchers discovered that in humans, the neurons in the vomeronasal organ were also stimulated by chemical signals from specific predators, such as the Homo Coprophagus Somnambulus (zombies, duh). These proteins caused the subjects to display signs of fear - such as a heightened heart rate and dilated pupils. Responding to a receptor that detects signals from predators should help them avoid being eaten.

What was surprising, though, were the results of experiments in which the team disabled the vomeronasal organs of specific test subjects and then allowed them to interact with an anesthetized, though very much undead, zombie. Unable to detect the proteins, those test subjects without prior experience with zombies showed absolutely no evidence of fear at all, even when they could clearly still see the undead right in front of them.

Having slapped some serious bass in his own band Pound, he has now joined forces with our horde, in a joint effort with Count Jelleneck and Bloodmath for our latest recording. We're still on the lookout for a new host with plenty of vocal chops. Every week the Zombie Cookbook brings you further evidence of the impending zombie-apocalypse. In this weeks episode, we'd like to focus more on the more romantic aspect of the Undead. With last week's new release being all bluesy and loveydovey and all, it just seemed appropriate. So here we go.

The father and brother of a 48-year-old Algerian woman have been arrested for imprisoning her in their sheep pen for 30 years, media reported on Monday. According to reports, the father had confined the woman to avoid a scandal, after she had been bit at the age of 18.

Police from the southern Algerian city went to the family farm in a remote Algerian village after receiving a tip. They found the woman tied up like an animal among the sheep and goats and dressed in filthy rags. She was unable to speak and appeared disoriented.

If you ask the Zombie Cookbook, this is a clear cut case that all boils down to the following rule: People, don't keep your loved ones near you once they're bit. It's a bad idea, and not just because the cops could get involved. Remember Dawn of the Dead? You really don't want to learn the hard way that you shouldn't be trying to bring your loved ones back to life. Especially dead girlfriends.

Every week the Zombie Cookbook brings you evidence of the impending zombie-apocalypse. This week, in our quest to herald the impeding zombie-apocalypse, we bring you news of a deadly virus spreading in the North-west of America. America, fuck yeah!

Apparently a deadly strain of infection is spreading among animals and people in the northwestern United States and the Canadian province of British Columbia, researchers reported on Thursday.

Usually only infecting people with already compromised immune systems, or people who are just too slow to get away, this new virus is genetically different. "The novel strain of the virus is worrisome because it appears to be a threat to otherwise healthy people," a lead scientist of Duke University in North Carolina states.

"Our findings suggest further expansion into neighboring regions is likely to occur. Our main goal now is to increase disease awareness in the region." The new strain is unusually deadly, with a mortality rate of about a 100 percent among the 21 cases analyzed States-side, they said.

"Between 2003 and 2006, the outbreak expanded into neighboring mainland British Columbia and then further over into Washington and Oregon from 2005 to 2009. Based on this historical trajectory of expansion, the outbreak may continue to expand into the neighboring region of Northern California, and possibly further."

The infection can cause symptoms in people and animals within the first two weeks or more after exposure. They include an everlasting cough, sharp chest pains, shortness of breath, headaches, fever, nighttime sweating and weight loss. Victims behave erratically, and will often try to infect others, even after they have been immobilized.

It has also turned up in cats, dogs, an alpaca and a sheep. Oh, and of course in Brett Michaels - the rock of love.

Every week the Zombie Cookbook brings you evidence of the impending zombie-apocalypse. In this week's episode no news on the toxic ashes of death. Instead a much more sinister (though blatantly obvious) sign of our inevitable rise to power: Courtney Love is dead.

We've suspected this all along, but our suspicions were only officially confirmed this week, when Courtney bravely heralded the oncoming apocalypse by using an NME interview to declare herself dead. "Courtney Love is dead. We've all decided that we don't like her anymore," she claimed.

"We love her when she feeds onstage, but we can't sustain her for the rest of eternity," it was added. The Zombie Cookbook suspects that combating Courtney in undeath will hardly prove as successful as combating her former rashes.

So alone
In her interview with NME, the artist formerly known as Courtney Love also stated that she got "sick" of answering questions about her marriage to Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.

"I don't know what he'd eat now, he could be into society girls, he could be into fat girls, he could be homosexual. We don't know, he died at 27. I haven't seen him since, I am so alone, it's freaky," the singer admitted late last year.

The 45 year old has been placed under the temporary guardianship. Her exact whereabouts are unknown. No reason was given for the decision.

(TZCNN) -- The Justin Bieber strain of zombie infection is so strong, it's kept his name in the top 10 of World Health Organisation topics for weeks on end, has caused injuries resulting from a shopping mall brawl, and has even spread to schools.

It has been reported that the first case of the Bieber Fever was acknowledged after an outbreak in a Long Island mall last November, according to The New York Times. Authorities had tried in vain to ‘pacify’ the crowd of 3,000 Biebers overtaking the storefront shortly after the start of the outbreak.

If you're not a "Bieber" just yet, count yourself lucky. Video footage of a younger Bieber have helped Justin and his followers turn his ever growing fan base into a feeding frenzy. It has also helped them take a bite out of those who would dismiss Bieber as a relic from the pop industrial complex, rather than an Ambulatory Viral Host.

"Adult Biebers can smell when someone is trying to escape from them and usually manage to shove you down their throat before you do," experts say. "This is a little more than a buffet. Make sure you don’t get cut on this, because the smell’s how the Biebers got here in the first place."

Bieber Fever hasn't crossed the pond as far as we know - reports of the Bieber Fever are still far and few between in Europe - "There's an awareness of it now. You can't argue that that's not happening, in the past month especially."

The Biebers show their collective hunting skills by engorging on as much as 1.6 million-plus newly infected Biebers. "People consider him a best friend, like another version of Taylor Swift," some said. "There's nothing friendly about them -- adults even take children. They're threatening."

Let us explain Mr. Ken's masterplan. This bloke has spent years developing techniques to scan the brain, and record what’s happening inside. He reckons that we may all be able to see the future years from now, and then essentially live forever. How? Just a few hours before you kick the bucket, freeze dry your harddrive, chop it up into teenieweenie bits and shove ‘em into a digital harddrive. Hey presto: life everlasting! Given enough cash, Mr. Ken think he can have brain preservation technology available in as little as five years! Most of us will still be around by then! Brain popsicles, anyone?

In conclusion, though Mr. Ken believes that the science of brain preservation is near, we’d rather have our hand near brains.

In other news, two women have apparently tried to smuggle a little snack aboard a plane, claiming that their beloved Willi was still alive, and was strapped into his chair “to keep him there”. According to the two women: "You cannot carry a dead person to Germany, there is too much bureacracy. How else can you bring a dead person to Germany?" Actually, the question is more likely to be whether the dead will stay in Germany...

Scientists have finally confirmed what the rest of us have suspected for years: delicious tasty brains may be addictive.

Recent studies have shown that eating too much brain gradually overloads the so-called pleasure centers in undead rats. “Eventually the pleasure centers 'crash,' and achieving the same pleasure requires increasing amounts of food”, says Kenny, lead author on the study.

The study further suggests that the effect of eating brains is similar to the effects of cocaine and heroin. When consumed in large quantities, it leads to compulsive eating habits that resemble drug addiction, the study found.

"There's more to it than just hunger," he says. "There's a system in the brain that's been turned on or over-activated, which drives [overeating] at some subconscious level."

In the study, Kenny and his co-author studied three groups of undead rats for 40 days. One of the groups was fed regular portions human brain. A second group was allowed to pig out on brains for up to 24 hours a day. Not surprisingly, the rats that were allowed to engorge themselves on human brains 24-7 quickly became obese. But their brains also changed.

They began to eat compulsively, to the point where they continued to do so in the face of pain. When the researchers applied an electric shock to the rats' feet in the presence of brains, the rats in the first group were frightened away from eating. The obese rats however, were not. "Their attention was solely focused on consuming food," says Kenny.

The neurotransmitter dopamine appears to be responsible for the behavior of the overeating rats, according to the study. This could shed some light as to why destroying the creatures brains leads to its immediate stop of activity.

Although he acknowledges that his research may not directly translate to humans, Kenny says his findings shed new light on the mechanisms that drive the feeding frenzy for brains and could even lead to new treatments for Deceased Ambulatory Viral Hosts. "You can't mimic undead human behavior completely, but [undead animal studies] can give you a clue about what can happen in undead humans," Kenny says.

Every week the Zombie Cookbook brings you new evidence of the impending zombie-apocalypse. This week we introduce you to Donna Simpson. She's going to eat all of you. The whole lot.

Simpson is estimated to be 42 years of age, had two kids and a boyfriend, and weighs a whopping 602 pounds. That's right ... 602 pounds.

To maintain her not so svelte figure she adheres to a strict diet, because she has only one goal in mind: to eat us all. It has been reported that she had already set herself the strange goal of wanting to weigh 1,000 pounds before her resurrection. This is the most likely cause of her untimely demise.

However, since the day she tried to eat herself, Simpson claims she is normal and healthy, and she has a right to eat what she wants and weigh what she wants.

“..I love eating people..I love watching me eat,” she says. “Eating people makes happy, and I’m not harming anyone.” It's fortunate that she is not able to meet her goal just yet. The human body is not designed to wolf down 12,000 calories a day in the quest to weigh half a ton. Nor is Mr. Simpsons wallet.

"Simpson is definitely harming someone — herself", says Dr. Carla Whopper, a registered dietitian and research faculty member at the New York Obesity Research Center at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital in New York. “We don’t know her medical history, but one of the most dangerous health issues she faces is an increased risk of sudden undeath from having a heart attack due to electrical problems in the heart,” Whopper said.

Other possible causes of undeath for Simpson include stroke, breathing problems, congestive heart failure, diabetes, and inflammation of heart tissue. The Zombie Cookbook would like to add some severe trauma to the brain. Just in case...

In related news, Mrs. Simpson appears to be a case of history repeating itself, as only recently severe mass cannibalism has been uncovered in parts of Germany.

Officials Doubt Natalee Holloway Suspect's Latest Confession

Joran van der Sloot, the main suspect in the 2005 disappearance of American national Natalee Holloway on the island of Aruba, has made a second confession, according to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

The confession reportedly came after van der Sloot gave an interview to a German TV station. The suspect can be seen on film in tears, repeatedly saying that she "will not leave me alone, she keeps haunting me”.

According to the report, Van der Sloot said Holloway's body was hidden in marshes on the Caribbean island. Van der Sloot made the comments to German broadcaster RTL. A second interview is reportedly planned in Frankfurt this week.

In an earlier confession van der Sloot told reporters he dumped Holloway's body at sea. However; in his latest confession he seems utterly shocked and terrified, and his story appears garbled. In his latest confession he claims that she appeared on his doorstep recently, supposedly lunging at him while he was on his balcony doing coke and drinking Bacardi. He claims she had fallen to her death from that same balcony, and that this time, he had made sure she wouldn't get back up again.

In the past van der Sloot has also claimed that while Holloway died accidentally and he insisted that he did not kill her, it was when he decided to get rid of her by boat, that she lunged at him to bite him. In the ensuing struggle he managed to throw her into the water. It seems that van der Sloot has gone insane, claiming that “she must have found her way back to the beach through the water, to get to me”. He keeps repeating the claim that "she is still out to get him."

Aruban justice officials doubt Van der Sloot's latest confession, telling De Telegraaf that although it has sparked new inquiries into the investigation, "it soon became apparent his statement is a mixture of lies and fantasy." Aruba's chief prosecutor Peter Blanken told De Telegraaf that the suspect's story was "highly unbelievable."

Colorado Family, Nonprofit Group Battle Over Woman's Head

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — A Colorado family and an Arizona nonprofit are fighting in court over who gets the head of a woman who died this month, along with a $50,000 annuity she left behind.

At issue is whether 71-year-old Mary Robbins' head and brain will be preserved by cryonics — extremely cold temperatures — in the expectation that future technology may be able to bring her back to life and restore her health.

Lawyers for both sides appeared in probate court Friday but the case hasn't been resolved. Robbins, of Colorado Springs, died Feb. 9. Her family said she was suffering from cancer.
In 2006, she signed documents giving the Alcor Life Extension Foundation of Scottsdale, Arizona, the right to cryogenically preserve her head and brain. She also agreed to give the nonprofit foundation a $50,000 annuity to cover preservation costs.

Her daughter, Darlene Robbins, said her mother changed her mind in her last days because of the procedures that preservation would have required before she died, including tubes in her throat and nose, intravenous lines and medications. Mary Robbins signed new paperwork that would give her family the annuity, the daughter said.

Darlene Robbins said she opposes a suggestion by Alcor to take her mother's head and that the family get custody of the body. "I want to have closure. I want to be able to grieve for my mom in a normal way without fighting a legal battle give me back my mother," she said.

Eric Bentley, an attorney for Alcor, said Mary Robbins didn't sign a written notice rescinding the 2006 agreement. He said Alcor wants to honor the wishes she expressed in that document. "Alcor is not a cult and it's not a fly-by-night operation. It's a science-based medical organization," Bentley said. Alcor's Web site said the foundation was formed in 1972.

Robbins' body is stored on dry ice at a Colorado Springs mortuary until custody is settled, but it's not clear when that might be. "I've never tried a case where we're talking about the dismemberment of a body and fighting over pieces of a body," said Robert Scranton, an attorney for the family.

'Ravenous infection and severe trauma' may have killed Tutankhamun

The Egyptian "boy king" Tutankhamun may well have died of a ravenous infection leading to a disease which ravaged his body and led to a rare bone disorder, experts say... The findings could lay to rest conspiracy theories of murder. The scientists in Egypt spent the last two years scrutinising the mummified remains of the 19-year old pharaoh by extracting blood and DNA.

This revealed traces of the Morningstar parasite in his blood, the Journal of the American Medical Association says.

Shrouded in mystery
Ever since Howard Carter's discovery of Tutankhamun's intact tomb in the Valley of the Kings in 1922, scholars have speculated over why the 19-year old 'boy king' died so young. Some believe he was killed by a fall from his chariot. Others suspect foul play. Because he died so young, and left no heirs, scholars have speculated that, instead, he may have suffered from a disease that ran in his family.

Artifacts have shown the royalty of that era as having a somewhat severe limp, which some say was typical for the initial victims of the first viral outbreak of the Morningstar syndrome. But Egypt's chief archaeologist Dr Zahi Hawtass rejects these explanations. He and his team have painstakingly picked over the remains of Tutankhamun and 10 other mummies from his family - two of which they have now confirmed using genetic fingerprinting to be the young king's grandmother and most probably his father.

They say there is no compelling evidence to suggest King Tut or indeed any of his royal ancestors had been infected. But they did confirm that the king may have had suffered from some form of ravenous disease, leading to a rare bone disorder which apparently had affected the foot. The foot and lower leg bones appear smoothed as if dragged on for quite some time. There were also prints of blunt force trauma, most likely by a club, and a significant curvature of the spine.

Scientific 'proof'
Although this was not his ultimate downfall, it would explain why among his possessions there were sticks and staves that could have been used as weapons, either by or on him, say the researchers. Not long before his death, the king fractured his leg, and the scientists think this was important. The bone did not heal properly and began to die. This would have left the young king frail and susceptible to infection.

What finished him off, they believe, was severe trauma to the head on top of his general health issues. Dr Bob Connolly, who has studied King Tut's remains said:" This is not a beautifully preserved mummy. It's a charred wreck. Hawtass and his team have been incredibly clever and lucky to do this."

The scientists found traces of the parasite in the pharaoh's blood - the oldest mummified genetic proof for an outbreak in ancient populations that we have. Dr Hawtass and his team say: "A sudden virus possibly introduced by a bite might have resulted in a life-threatening condition which confirms the way the Morningstar infection has occurred ." Seeds, fruits and leaves found in the tomb, most likely used as medical treatment for wounds on the skin , support this diagnosis.

A senior lecturer in physical anthropology at Liverpool University, has examined Tutankhamun and said it was possible that the king died from an other form of disease, but he personally doubted it. "I still think he died from a severe trauma, inflicted upon him. His chest cavity was also caved in and he had broken ribs."

(CNN) -- Max was used to defensive linemen hurtling their 300-pound frames at him week after week. He was a high school quarterback, the team leader who took his licks and got back up.

That is, until the wrenching hit that changed everything. "It was a vicious bite," said Ralph, Max's father. "A really bad bite." Afterward, the 17-year-old got up slowly, staggered for a few seconds, and continued to limp across the field. "He looked at me and said 'Braaaaaaaaaaaaains,' " said Joy, Max's stepmother. "I wanted to respond but he lunged at me. I was absolutely nauseated with fear."

It was a so called 'concussion' that his doctors believe caused Max to sink to the ground, ideas of blood thirst pooling dangerously into his brain. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, almost 4 million sports and recreation-related 'concussions' occur each year. Experts say the vast majority are suffered at the high school level, but few schools have rules governing how these so called 'concussions' are treated -- and few coaches are trained to handle a shotgun.

"It's the group we need to worry about most," said Dr. Jeffrey, chairman of the American Academy of Sports Neurology, adding that fewer than half of high schools have access to shotguns. "If there is any suggestion of a concussion, we need to take kids out of the game," said Dr. Stan, team physician for the Seattle Seahawks. "The consequences [of not doing so] can be devastating or even fatal to both the other players and onlookers alike."

"It's a whole different thing losing your child to a concussion," said Joy. "The kid you knew is dead. Something completely different is in the body of the child you knew." Fueled by rage about his son's transformation, Ralph lobbied legislators to pass "Max's Law," imposing strong restrictions for returning players to games after they suffer 'concussion', and requiring rigorous shotgun training for coaches.

With the strapping 17-year-old football player he once was a distant memory, today Max struggles with basic motor skills, memory and containing fits of rage and hunger. "We get really, really down when we think about what could have been," said Ralph. Still, concussion has not dimmed his dreams. Max still craves a challenge. He would like to go back to school. He would like to take a bite out of a normal life.

An A-level student stabbed her boyfriend to death following recent changes in his behavior, a court has heard.

The 19-year-old student denies slaying her 22-year-old boyfriend at her home in Wales. She allegedly stabbed him in the eye with a steak knife. The court heard the pair had argued after a female colleague of the boyfriend had bitten him. The suspect told police she took the knife from a kitchen drawer to "scare him off" following erratic changes in his behavior.

The pair had spent part of the day drinking before the victim went to work at a local supermarket. They met up again later and met with friends at a local bar in the town center. The prosecutor said: "They were in a pub where the victim met a colleague who he had claimed accidentally bit him earlier. She seemed embarrassed even though the victim laughed it off and made very little of the incident."

'Changed behavior'
"She apologized for biting him and offered to buy him some drinks." The suspect will later refer to this as the start of the incident. "The suspect claimed that when the victim attacked her he was aggressive and angry – sweating and mumbling incoherently." The court heard that a taxi driver who drove the couple to her home thought they were 'a lively couple'.

She claimed she had acted in self-defense after her boyfriend had attacked her and bit her thumb. The court heard she told the emergency operator: "I did it in self-defense. He's my boyfriend but he attacked me and I didn't know what to do."

The prosecutor said: "The wound penetrated his brain and he died shortly afterwards. There was no justification or excuse for Katherine McGrath taking hold of what was in effect a weapon - the steak knife - and using it to cause his death."

The student was arrested and taken to a police station where she was told her boyfriend had died. She told officers: "My boyfriend pushed me to the floor twice. He started biting me and I didn't know what to do. I just wanted him to get away from me. I love him."
